The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that people who have been immunized with the two doses of COVID19 shots should not let their guards down that early. The health agency has said that vaccinated people should keep wearing their masks indoors and follow social distancing as the Delta variant of coronavirus is spreading across many parts of the world. The director-general of the WHO, Dr. Mariangela Simao has said that despite being vaccinated people should not feel safe rather they need to protect themselves from other deadly variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. On the other hand, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has said that people who have been vaccinated with two doses of COVID19 vaccine can drop their masks off indoors. The US health agency has said that people who have been immunized do not need to wear masks anymore. The CDC has given no sign that the agency might change its recommendation in the wake of the latest recommendation made by the WHO.
There are some areas in the US where authorities are urging people to wear masks indoors. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has said that people should wear masks until experts gather more data about the Delta variant. The officials have said that at this time, people should concentrate on full protection. At present, the Delta variant contributes to nearly 50 percent of active cases in Los Angeles. Health experts have said that the Delta variant might be more deadly and contagious as compared to the original strain. In the United States, it accounts for 1 out of 5 cases at present. An analysis of data gathered by the John Hopkins University has shown that around 23 states in the US have reported a rise in COVID19 cases this week compared to the last week.
Experts from the John Hopkins University have said that the US has reported more than 33.6 million COVID19 cases so far since the pandemic has started. Nearly 604100 people have lost their lives due to COVID19 in the US. The SARS-CoV-2 virus that leads to COVID19 disease has claimed around 3.92 million lives across the world. Around 181.3 million people have been infected with the virus in the world.
