According to the latest data from multiple authentic sources, it has been found that a number of high-school students are now into smoking cigarettes. Considering that the numbers were declining for the past two years, this development is upsetting the officials a lot. One of the main reasons for the increase in smoking rates is the increasing popularity of vaping and e-cigarettes. E-cigarettes are considered to have an important role in the increasing rates of smoking among school students and teenagers. The data was being revealed by federal health officials.
It should be noted that the data has not been made official yet and the federal health officials have asked to maintain anonymity. As per this data, however, it has been found that the rates have gone up to 8.1% in the year 2017. Comparing this with the previous year’s rate of 7.6%, it can be found that .5% of students have started using e-cigarettes and other forms of smoking. It must be noted that the data consists of high-school students only. As the domain expands, there will be an increase in smoking rates as well. The data from sources like CDC is also affirming this dangerous trend.
Recently, many officials had said that the use of e-cigarettes is becoming a serious epidemic among students in the United States and this had serious consequences on the overall rates of smoking as well. The National Youth Tobacco Survey also noted that more high-school students are turning towards smoking and that the cigarette use rates are surging by as high as 70% in total. The problem becomes even worse as it becomes so obvious that the efforts to minimize the teen-smoking habits have gone in vain. The full data set from the federal sources will be revealed later this year, showing more insights into the issue.
