Every business analyst predicted that the number of unemployment cases would be increased if the government decides to give more compensation and benefits. A recent report from the Labour Department shows the same thing happening in Washington because there has been a 450% increase in unemployment claims made by the people as a result of expanded benefits released by the government. Many people didn’t file or not qualify for claiming unemployment benefits; however, since the Washington government has changed this policy and made everyone eligible, now lakhs of people have filed for unemployment.
Experts say the state decision to allow this thing is not right since many people who were early not capable of getting these benefits are enjoying it without any hesitation. Freelancers, single contract workers and many other groups of individuals were excluded from claiming unemployment benefits; however, now thousands of them will get the money from the state government. The report shows that people filing will get claim benefits for more than 13 weeks or nearly two months, which is the significant amount the state government will have to pay. Earlier 787,533 people filed for claims, and almost every one of them got it.
However, from last one week, this number has increased to 1.5 million people, which now put a burden on those people who were genuinely eligible and needed these claims. The web traffic to file forms online to mobile has significantly increased, which is also making a problem for technical people to handle such kind of enormous traffic. The state’s decision to give compensation benefits to everyone is quite controversial since it will be creating an economic burden on itself if the lockdown extends. Still, the government agency is focusing more on those people who genuinely need money during an emergency time and making sure they have it.
