Career

Golden State Warriors selected Poole with the 28th overall pick in the initial stage of the 2019 NBA Draft on June 20, 2019. His three-year, US$6.2 million guaranteed contract was in place. The Warriors signed Poole to his debutant contract on July 11. Poole had made his NBA debut on October 24 in the Warriors’ season-opening resulting in a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers (122-141), coming off the bench with five points, two rebounds and two assists, and a steal. He initially made his first NBA start for the Warriors on October 29 against the Pelicans, scoring 13 points in the team’s opening victory of the year.

Poole was given a contract with the NBA G-League team Santa Cruz Warriors in December 2019. He scored 23 points in his debut game against Stockton Kings. Poole received a second call to join the Golden State Warriors team in January 2020. In a 109-95 victory over the Orlando Magic on January 18, Poole scored a then-career-high 21 points. The Maize Rage, which consisted of Michigan’s student section, hosted a “Poole party” in the side stands for the game against Minnesota on February 3. However, Poole missed all four of his field goal tries.

With three consecutive performances of ten points or more versus Ohio State on February 18, with Penn State on February 21, and again with Maryland on February 24, Poole ended the regular season with three consecutive performances of that caliber. Even though Poole struggled throughout the four-game stretch, missing all nine of his three-point attempts, Michigan’s victory over Purdue on March 4 handed the Wolverines their second consecutive Big Ten tournament championship.
